How to easily change an electrical outlet

There is nothing very complicated to change an electrical outlet, but it requires compliance with safety rules.

Security principle


CAUTION: To avoid any risk of electrocution or electric shock, be sure to cut off the current at the main circuit breaker.

Dismantling the socket


It exists remove cachetwo types of sockets:

- in the case of a socket with fixing screws, unscrew them.

- in the case of a socket covered with a decorative strip or box, remove it.

Insert a flat screwdriver under the border of the band, folding the handle towards the wall. By leverage, you can lift the headband and collect it. All that remains is to unscrew the fixing screws and remove the socket from the wall.

Once the plug comes out of the wall, unscrew the screws that hold the wires to release the plug. Strip the wires 7 to 8 mm with a wire stripper.

Twist the tips of the wires if this is not done. To do this, insert them into the universal pliers, making a quarter turn with the pliers in order to twist them.

Then insert the electric wires into the new socket. Only the earth wire (yellow / green) has a specific location marked with the symbol "N". Regarding the neutral wire and the phase wire, they are connected in no particular order. Tighten the terminal fixing screws so that the wires hold correctly.

Installation of the socket


Place the wires back into the wall and snap in the new plug. Then tighten the socket fixing screws. If it has a cover, install it by pressing on it until you hear a "click".

The outlet is installed, you can turn the power back on to the circuit breaker.
