Convenient method to calculate a percentage

Wondering how to calculate a percentage? Nothing's easier. Follow these few examples and you're done.

Example 1

You ate 100 grams of a packet of rice containing 1000. What is the percentage of the packet of rice consumed?

You just need to divide the number of grams of rice consumed by the number of grams of total rice in the package. The calculation is as follows: 100/1000 = 0.1.

To transform this result into a percentage, we multiply it by 100: 0.1 * 100 = 10%. So you have consumed 10% of the rice packet.

Example 2

The pants of your dreams are on sale. Its price is 55 euros whereas it was 70 euros before the promotion. What is the percentage reduction?

First, you need to determine the amount of the reduction. To do this, simply subtract the price before promotion by the price after promotion, ie: 70-55 = 15. The amount of the reduction is 15 euros. This price must then be compared to the initial price. We divide the amount of the reduction by the discounted price, i.e. 15/55 = 0.27. We multiply this result by 100 to obtain it as a percentage, i.e. 0.27 * 100 = 27%. On these pants you have benefited from a 27% discount.
