How to remove a red wine stain

Red wine is one of the most complicated substances to clean. As with blood, you have to act quickly so that the stain does not soak up. If you didn't notice the stain right away, it is also possible to remove the stain if it is dry but it will be a little more difficult. So quickly, let's go to the solutions!

  • If the stain is still wet:

- Apply flour, talcum powder or cornstarch to the damp red wine stain

These different substances set the wine and, once dried, the stain can be removed with a soft bristle brush.

- Apply milk to the damp red wine stain

First dab the stain with a dry cloth to remove as much of the liquid as possible, then pour milk over the entire red wine stain. Wait 45 minutes to 1 hour for the milk to react with the wine (the milk should turn pink) then brush the fabric.

- Apply cleansing milk to the red wine stain

Use a cotton ball with the milk then dab the stain delicately. Once the stain has come off, rinse with cold water or put in the machine if it is clothing.

  • If the stain is dry:

- Apply white wine (or lemon) and baking soda

It may seem counterintuitive, but the white wine will help loosen the tannins of the red wine from the fabric and the baking soda will amalgamate the two wines. Carefully pour the white wine or lemon over the red wine stain and sprinkle the red wine stain. After a few hours, you can remove the stain by rubbing with cold soapy water. Finally, rinse off with cold water.

- Apply oven cleaner (only on white cloth)

Oven cleaner is very effective but may rub off your fabric if it is colored. Apply the cleanser, let it act for a few moments then scrub with a soft brush.

  • Clean the red wine stain according to the surface on which it is spilled:

- On a stone or concrete slab

Mix 25 grams of baking soda in a liter of water then soak the stain with a sponge. Let the two liquids mix for a few minutes then scrub with a brush and cold water.

- On the carpet
