The installation of the tiles is not difficult thing but requires a good preparation and the respect of certain stages.
Necessary material :
- Tile cutting machine
- A rubber mallet
- A trowel
- A toothed spatula
- A spirit level
- Adhesive mortar
Before starting the installation, first make sure that your support is perfectly flat, clean and dry.
If your floor shows signs of moisture or mold, treat with anti-humidity or anti-mold products.
If your ground is not level, it is necessary to re-create.
In the case of a very porous surface, apply a layer of adhesive mortar or filler and let dry before installation.
There are several methods for laying your tiles. It is possible either to start from the center of the room or from the entrance.
Spread the adhesive with the trowel over an area of approximately 1m² each time. For the tile to adhere well, use your toothed spatula to make grooves in the glue.
Place the first tile by tapping on it with the rubber mallet to secure it.
Then distribute the braces at each corner of the tile. Place the next tile against one of the braces and continue doing the same for each tile.
Once this small area is complete, tamp the tiles with the mallet.
Proceed in the same way until all of your surface is tiled. Check the flatness of the floor with a spirit level before the glue dries. So you can press the tiles to flatten your surface if necessary.
The choice of the width of the links will depend on that of the tiles. The bigger the tiles, the bigger the joints will be too. For tiles of 10 * 10 cm, opt for joints of 2 to 3 mm. For tiles of 20 * 20 cm, prefer joints of 3 to 5 mm. For tiles of 30 * 30 cm, choose joints of 5 to 10 mm and so on ...
